The soul of the Maison du Riz: a story of family and passion

The real treasure of the Maison du Riz is its human story. Here, you are not just a visitor but the guest of the Rozière family, rice growers for five generations. This line of enthusiasts has preserved and passed on ancestral know-how, while adapting to the challenges of the 21st century.

It was in 2015 that Jacques Rozière, son and grandson of rice growers, decided to create this unique educational space to share his love of the profession. With his wife Françoise, they built much more than a farm: a place of life and transmission.

Today, their children are taking over: Jean-Philippe, who is gradually taking the reins of the farm, and Marine, a true “rice ambassador”, who welcomes you with a smile and passionately shares the story of her family and her land. Their commitment is palpable and turns the visit into an authentic, moving encounter.

Your guided tour: an immersive journey for young and old

The visit to the Maison du Riz is designed as a complete journey into rice growing, a varied experience the whole family will enjoy. The tour is divided into several areas, each revealing a side of this fascinating world.

The museum: from old machines to today’s grain

The visit begins indoors with two museum areas. The first is devoted to farm machinery specific to rice growing, where impressive vintage machines tell the story of changing techniques. The second is dedicated to the rice grain itself. You will discover its life cycle, from seed to harvest, and the different processing stages that bring it to your plate.

The educational trail: a walk at the pace of the rice fields

The heart of the experience is outdoors. An educational trail takes you through five real rice fields where, depending on the season, you can see the different growing stages : flooding in April, the deep green plants growing in summer, or their golden colour announcing the harvest in autumn. It is a unique chance to walk right beside the fields and understand how crucial water management is.

The gourmet shop: take home the flavours of the Camargue

Your visit ends with an essential stop at the shop. There you will find the different varieties of IGP Camargue rice grown on the farm: brown, red, black or naturally fragrant rice. The shop is also a showcase for local delicacies : terrines and gardiane de taureau, sausage, Camargue fleur de sel and many other local products.

IGP Camargue rice: much more than a cereal

By visiting the Maison du Riz, you will discover that rice growing is essential to theecological balance of the Camargue. Fresh water from the Rhône, channelled into the fields, desalinates the land and stops the region from becoming a “salt desert” again. These flooded rice fields create rich ecosystems that shelter exceptional wildlife, including hundreds of bird species.

The IGP (Protected Geographical Indication) “Riz de Camargue” label guarantees not only an origin but also superior quality. Grown to strict specifications, this rice benefits from the unique conditions of the land: generous sunshine and the mistral wind, which keeps the crops healthy.

Buying IGP Camargue ricetherefore means supporting know-how, a local economy and helping to preserve the landscape you admire.

A Camargue experience to live and taste

The Maison du Riz in the Camargue is much more than a tourist activity: it is a gateway to a deep understanding of the region. A meeting with an endearing family, a real-life nature lesson and a discovery of authentic flavours. After such a rich day, head back to relax by the pool at the campsite, before making a risotto with the rice you have just bought. To extend your discovery, go and watch the birds of the Camargue.
