Vauvert en Camargue

Tourism in Vauvert

Vauvert lies in the heart of the Petite Camargue and the Costières de Nîmes vineyards, in the Gard department. A must-visit during your camping holiday in Occitanie (formerly Languedoc-Roussillon) at our campsite in the Camargue.
This peaceful little town, with just over ten thousand inhabitants, has the typical character of the farming towns of the last century. Its historic centre keeps its picturesque look, with charming narrow streets.
A stay in Vauvert is a wonderful opportunity to discover rich, wild nature. It begins at the gates of Gallician, a hamlet that belongs to the commune of Vauvert along with Montcalm, with vast green expanses of natural reed beds.

Visiting Vauvert in the Gard

Ideally nestled between the Costières de Nîmes vineyards and the Petite Camargue, in the Gard department, Vauvert is a typical town of the south of France. Its landscapes are rich and full of contrasts. Visitors discover vineyards and salt marshes, but also rice fields, marshes and pine forests. Together they create a unique charm, in a place that boasts nature as rich as it is vast.

The north of Vauvert is mainly rolling countryside with vineyards, pine forests and orchards. The south of the town is marked by vast, calm and wild nature, bordered by lagoons, reed beds, salt marshes and rice fields: these natural areas form the marshes of the Petite Camargue, which lies between the Vidourle and the Petit Rhône, at the southern tip of the department.

A market livens up the town every Wednesday and Saturday morning. In the centre, visitors discover the rich historic heritage of Vauvert: houses from the 18th and 19th centuries, a 17th-century church, two 19th-century Protestant churches and a 17th-century belfry.

The wine cellars, cooperative or private, also attract many visitors. A visit is a great opportunity to discover fine wines made the traditional way.
